Get your ‘appy feet on and see penguins like never before with the new iOS and Android app for the Penguin Parade, Phillip Island.

Available in six languages and on smartphones and tablets, key content includes:

  • A live burrow camera
  • An interactive 3D penguin detailing adaptations for life on land and at sea
  • Instant penguin statistics to your device from the penguin weighbridge located in the colony
  • Best Penguin Parade viewing tips and videos
  • Penguin tracking data and videos
  • A game to test your fishing skills or penguin knowledge
  • Gallery of little penguin photos to keep and share.

Translated into English, Mandarin, German, Spanish, Japanese and Korean, the app heralds an exciting new era in visitor engagement at the world-famous ecotourism attraction.

“For the first time in the Penguin Parade’s 90 year history visitors will be able to see behind-the-scenes of the penguin colony,” Nicoleta Giurgiu, marketing manager for Phillip Island Nature Parks, said.

“The burrow camera means people can tune in for the moment a penguin chick hatches. Visitors will also be able to watch a penguin cross the research weighbridge and receive instant statistics on each penguin, including sex, time at sea and weight of individual penguins the moment they cross.”

To coincide with the launch of the app, Phillip Island Nature Parks has also rolled out free WiFi across the Penguin Parade visitor centre and boardwalks. The app will be incorporated into education talks at the Penguin Parade and all visitors on ranger guided tours will have access to an iPod touch and exciting visual content.

Users can download the Penguin Parade Phillip Island app from the Apple App store and Google Play.

The app was developed by Tilt+Co.
