Nature Parks runs Educators’ Expo for teachers in Casey

Phillip Island Nature Parks has teamed up with a host of service providers to bring the best of Phillip Island to the teachers of Casey at their Educators’ Expo, to be held on Friday, 5 August at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick.

Rangers from the Nature Parks’ Education department are passionate about providing teachers with opportunities for professional development, and encouraging them to develop their own awareness of the importance of the natural environment, in order to share this with their students.

Kim Dunstan, Nature Parks Education Coordinator said: “This Expo is all about giving teachers the chance to understand the immersive learning opportunities available on Phillip Island while contributing to their own professional development as well.”

“We have scheduled a series of 1 hour sessions with our Education rangers, who will also supply teachers with a comprehensive set of classroom-ready resources. These resources are suitable as standalone activities, but would also bring additional relevance to the classroom either before or after a school group visit to Phillip Island. Our programs incorporate different strands of learning such as Maths, Science, Geography and Literacy, and link them to environmental elements.”

Professional Development session times:
Primary Program – Passion for Wildlife: 10am to 11am & 1pm to 2pm
Secondary Program – Turn the Tide on Marine Debris: 11am to 12pm & 2pm to 3pm

“Our island partners will also have representatives there throughout the day to talk to the teachers about some of the fantastic services and activities they offer visiting school groups,” Kim concluded.
