Run the Roads Less Travelled Across Phillip Island

Phillip Island’s iconic and beautiful coastline will form the backdrop to a unique event this Spring. The inaugural Phillip Island Running Festival is set to map an exciting and spectacular course for participants of all fitness levels ranging in distance from two kilometres up to an Ultra Marathon challenge.

The festival, to be held in September, will take runners through a variety of Phillip Island’s spectacular terrains. Organisers promise that most of the course will be off road and designed to showcase the natural beauty of Phillip Island’s beaches, coastline and woodlands.

Phillip Island Nature Parks is proud that the newly opened Penguin Parade visitor centre will set the stage for the start of the event and also play host to a festival at the finish of the event for runners, supporters and spectators to enjoy.

“We are delighted to be partners in presenting this festival to Phillip Island and the wider running community,” says Jade Cranton, Marketing Executive for Phillip Island Nature Parks.

“The new Penguin Parade visitor centre will provide a great venue for this event which promotes fitness and Phillip Island’s natural beauty. I challenge everyone to consider being a part of the day - there is a course to suit you.”

Phillip Island is partnering to present the event with Trailsplus - a small family owned and run business which has provided community trail running events for 10 years and has a reputation for being friendly and inclusive. The company also ensures that charity and fundraising opportunities are available by engaging, volunteer groups to fundraise whilst providing charity donations to various causes.

Trailsplus Event Director, Brett Saxon, is a passionate runner and started the company as a life change after burning out in the corporate world.

“We were created from the love of the great outdoors and the adventures and challenges that can be presented, using these to realise our ability and full potential to help overcome many of life’s hurdles,” he says.

So, set your Fitbit, update your iCalendar or simply write the date in your diary now. More details will be provided at www.penguins.org.au as we run down to this exciting event in September. See you there!
