Community Voices to Guide Accessibility at Phillip Island Nature Parks
Phillip Island Nature Parks is inviting people living with disability, carers, families, community organisations and tourism operators to help shape the organisation’s future accessibility and inclusion priorities as part of the development of its Draft Disability Action Plan 2027-2030.
Community consultation has now begun, with the Nature Parks seeking feedback from people about their experiences at the Nature Parks attractions, reserves and online platforms.
The feedback will play an important role in shaping the Draft Disability Action Plan and helping the Nature Parks identify opportunities to improve accessibility and inclusion across its visitor experiences and services.
Phillip Island Nature Parks Community Impact Manager Kate Adams said the organisation wanted to work closely with the community to better understand the needs, rights and aspirations of people with disability.
“We want our visitors and community to support and challenge us as we continue to advance disability action initiatives across the Nature Parks,” Ms Adams said.
“It is important that we hear directly from people with disability, along with those who care for and work with people who live with disability, so we can better understand the barriers and challenges and identify where we can improve.”
“The Nature Parks is committed to creating and promoting an environment that is inclusive of all people and their unique abilities, strengths, and differences.”
“We know accessible and inclusive experiences are important for everyone and this feedback will play an important role in shaping our future Disability Action Plan.”
The first stage of engagement will take place throughout June and includes feedback about experiences visiting the Nature Parks attractions and reserves, as well as the accessibility of information available on the organisation’s website.
The Draft Disability Action Plan will then be developed and shared with the community for further feedback.
The Nature Parks is encouraging anyone with feedback, ideas or questions to visit engage.penguins.org.au or contact the Community team via email at community@penguins.org.au.
