Our Story

Phillip Island Nature Parks (the Nature Parks) is a unique conservation organisation that operates complementary ecotourism experiences on Phillip Island.

Our environment and wildlife populations are beautiful and fragile. We have a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the minds of our visitors so that they too can protect our Island home.

Our Purpose

To protect nature for wildlife and inspire people to act.

Our Vision

A place where conservation and ecotourism excellence inspire people to actively protect the environment.

Our Values

Guide our decision-making processes and the behaviours in which we work. Each of our values coexist with each other and none is of greater importance than another.

  1. Nature conservation is paramount

  2. Engaging Experiences

  3. Future-focused

  4. Delivering Outcomes Together

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live, work and learn, the Bunurong. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Establishment
Phillip Island Nature Parks was created by the State Government of Victoria in 1996 and comprises over 1,805 hectares of Crown Land set aside under the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978 “for the conservation of areas of natural interest or beauty or of scientific, historic or archaeological interest.”

Nature and range of service
We're part of the UNESCO Western Port Biosphere Reserve and encompass wildlife sanctuaries, wetlands, woodlands and breathtaking coastlines which are protected and managed by our world-renowned environmental and research programs.

Habitat within Phillip Island Nature Parks supports significant populations of little penguins, hooded plovers, short-tailed shearwaters and other international migratory bird species, and mammals such as koalas, possums, wallabies, Australian fur seals and bats.

The Nature Parks protects a range of plant communities that includes over 330 native species. Sections of the Nature Parks also fall within or are adjacent to wetlands protected under the inter-governmental Ramsar Convention as wetlands of international importance.

We're dedicated to quality ecotourism experiences and wildlife management and feature the highest number of Advanced Ecotourism accredited types of tours of any tourism operator in Victoria.

Profits generated by our main attractions are invested into conservation, research, ecotourism, environmental and educational initiatives within the Nature Parks. We are also proud to be Phillip Island’s largest employer with a diverse team that is committed to the success of the organisation.
