K-2 – Koalas and Conservation

Meet one of Australia's most iconic animals and discover how we can help protect its future.

Through hands-on classroom activities, an interactive visit to the Koala Conservation Reserve, and creative conservation projects, students explore koalas, their habitats and simple actions they can take to help protect native wildlife.

Inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of wildlife with this curriculum-aligned lesson plan pack for Foundation to Year 2 students.

Designed to complement a visit to the Koala Conservation Reserve, this ready-to-use resource introduces students to the fascinating world of koalas through engaging science, geography and conservation activities. Students learn about koala adaptations, habitats, life cycles and basic needs while developing observation, mapping and data collection skills.

Across three sequenced lessons, students discover what makes koalas unique, explore the bushland environment of the Koala Conservation Reserve, and investigate simple ways people can help protect wildlife and their habitats. The experience combines classroom learning, guided fieldwork and creative hands-on activities to build understanding and confidence while creating lasting connections with nature.

During their visit, students become wildlife explorers as they use maps, search for koalas and native animals, complete bushland bingo challenges and learn from conservation experts. Back in the classroom, they apply their learning through creative projects that connect conservation action with everyday choices such as recycling and reducing waste.

Designed by educators to save teachers valuable planning time, this pack provides everything needed to deliver meaningful, curriculum-aligned learning before, during and after your excursion.
