Ian Beveridge
Ian Beveridge obtained his Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Melbourne, staying on as a Research Fellow in the Wildlife Disease Unit of the Faculty. Subsequently, he held research positions working on cestode and nematode parasites at the University of Neûchatel in Switzerland, the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris and James Cook University in Queensland.
He was employed as a veterinary pathologist in the parasitology section of the state veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Adelaide, initially as part of the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science until it later came under the control of the Department of Agriculture. He retained an interest in wildlife while working on parasitic diseases of domestic animals.
Ian returned to Melbourne University as a Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Parasitology until his retirement and is currently an emeritus professor at the university.
His primary research interests at the University of Melbourne have been in wildlife diseases with a particular focus on parasitic diseases, principally in marsupials, but also in fish. As so much of the Australian parasite fauna is still undescribed, taxonomic studies have been a significant component of his research activities.
